Featured Illustrator on Veerle’s Blog
Posted by Jacob
Hey everyone… Just wanted to give you a heads up on an interview on Veerle Pieter’s blog with myself. I’ve been a fan of her web design skills and was wowed by her invitation to share some of my work and thoughts with her community. She also has some nice Photoshop, Illustrator, and Expression Engine tutorials in the archives.
Hopefully a good read… Enjoy!

Use your iPod as a Mini Digital Portfolio!
Posted by David
Put you iPod touch to work for you as an ultra portable digital portfolio! (I’m using the example of a iPod touch here, but I’m pretty certain you can do the same thing on the iPhone.)
Make your illustration Pod sized
First to make a digital copy of you illustration for your iPod, convert your illustration to RGB if it isn’t already. Next you will probably need to scale the illustration down. Keep in mind that the touch display is 480-by-320 pixels at 163 ppi resolution. Once your illustration is scaled down, save it as a jpeg (preferably web-safe) in a new folder. Name the folder iPod illustrations, and save it where you will be able to easily find it later.
Import Your Illustration to iPhoto
Next open iPhoto. From the top menu choose File - Add to Library, then locate the folder you just made. Select your illustration, and click Import. Your illustration should now be in iPhoto. Create a new album called your name illustrations, and drag your newly uploaded illustration into it.
Uploading to your iPod
Connect your iPod touch to your computer. Once iTunes opens, select your iPod in the side menu then and select Photos. In the list of photo albums check the new album you just made in iPhoto. Sync your iPod, and your new mini-digital portfolio should be ready to go! On your iPod this new album will be located along with your other Photos. You will be able to view thumbnails of all your illustrations, and the full size images can be played in a slide show!
The full size image on the iPod vs. the blogger version.
Now you will always have samples of your fantastic work on hand, because you never know who you will bump into!
Please note: Some of the steps may be different than I have outlined depending on your software, and OS version.

Attemped Bird Feeder One
Posted by David
Last month I decided that it would be fun to have a bird feeder so we could watch birds from our kitchen window that looks out to our backyard. To attract some of the hearty little Canadian birds of winter I hung a suet feeder from our red maple tree. I did some research beforehand, and knew it would take a week or so for the birds to figure out there were some new eats in town to be enjoyed. I was prepared to patiently wait for the Blue Jays and Woodpeckers to arrive, at which point I would draw them as they ate the mixture of fat and seeds I have so thoughtfully offered them. My plan seemed so perfect. The birds get food and I’d have a relaxing new hobby/access to bird models for drawing. It is now week number five, and not even one feathered friend!
To keep my bird watching spirits high I drew this little red bird splashing about in a birdbath.

Yo JOE!
Posted by David
I created this drawing of a flirty Shipwreck and Cover Girl for the Throwback Thursday GIJOE drawing contest. It was fun re-imagining a couple of classic characters from a favorite 80’s cartoon. As if anyone really needs a reason to draw a wise-cracking sailor with a parrot.

The Million Stories Project
Posted by Jacob
I finally found some time to do some illustration work for fun. This is for a iTunes playlist I’ve listened to almost exclusively over the past few weeks. It was a good stress relief from client work and I learned some new things…

Thanksgiving bunnies
Posted by Kathy
Hi all! Here is an oldie-but-goodie which, despite the obvious “Halloween” clues, still feels more distinctly “Thanksgiving” to me, and I guess it always has. I hope you enjoy it!! Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

Don’t Answer the Door…
Posted by Jacob
"If these guys show up at your door tonight, don’t answer. One of them is not a kid looking for candy.”
I did this illustration for Penelope’s Monster Mash. I just made the deadline (today)! I lovingly refer to them as “The Goon, Geek and Punk"… Anyways, have a creepy - but not too creepy Halloween…

Monster Mash
Posted by David
Last year was the Black & Orange contest. I had so much fun with it that I was anxiously awaiting this years contest. This is my entery for the Monster Mash organised by Penelope Dullaghan. Time is almost up so if you haven’t already mashed your own monster it’s time start those creative caldrons. I just made another visit, and there are already nine monstrous pages of beastly fun posted there!
Happy Halloween!!

Little Dead Riding Hood
Posted by Val
I really enjoyed making this image for the Monster mash contest and I am just squeezing into the time frame allotted by Penelope. I don’t normally do monsters so I thought it would be good to give it a go and I had a fun time creating “Little Dead Riding Hood”.
Airbrush and handpainting on Canson AirBrush paper.

ATC
Posted by Andi
I almost bought a book about artist’s trading cards about a year ago, because I thought they were neat. Now, I find myself wanting that book, because I’ve just joined Art Day Monday’s ATC, but I have none to trade yet! I guess I kind of put the cart before the horse, but it looks like it’ll be fun, once I get my thoughts together! I’ve had a bit of a block lately, too much work and not enough playing, and as creatives we have to be able to play enough with our style to stay fresh and fun! So I’m trying to exercise my creative muscles to stay “fit!”
